    Ashley @ Mexic-arte Museum

This was a great experience, I volunteered for an event set up by the Mexic-arte Museum which was referred as "Viva La Vida". This was a great event, because it was designed to honor the dead which is a cultural tradition that I and my family celebrate too. The first part of my shift consisted on helping little children make paper mache flowers that they could put in altars or make a hair band. The second part consisted of giving flowers to those that had made donations in order support the cause of the Mexic-arte Museum. The final part of my shift consisted of directing visitors through the museum and showing them art pieces that highlighted Mexican culture.

Project Work Day - Concho Community Garden - Saturdays

This experience was very gratifying, because I was able to build a relationship with my environment. I tend to not take care of the environment, however, this opportunity showed me that the survival and sustainability of our environment is in our hands. It's our responsibility to take care of it. We receive so much from our environment that we should respond by giving it love and care.

Project Work Day - Concho Community Garden - Saturdays

This event gave me the opportunity to build a stronger relationship with my local community. In addition, it made me understand the significance of preserving our environment. We often take for granted natural resources and do little to preserve them, however, this event helped me understand that there is so much we can do for our environment. Even doing small things like watering the plants can make a big difference to help improve our ecosystem!

ULN End of the Year Community Service Holiday Event

This was a great experience since I was able to meet members of the ULN family and to also create special bags for the homeless community in Austin. I hope that they will enjoy the items in the bags and may their holidays be fill with joy. These bags are the least we can do for those in need, and may all individuals be filled with happiness in this holiday season.

Texas Interdisciplinary Plan Community Organization (TIPCO)

This was a fantastic opportunity for me since I was given the opportunity to meet fellow TIP scholar and also to serve those in need. First, we decorated paper bag and then we integrated essential goods such as toothpaste, socks, and wipes into them. In addition, we also made holiday cards for soldiers fighting in the Middle East. This simple acts are the least we can do for these wonderful communities. Joy is a feeling that should be known by all.

    Handbags for Hope

This was an event in which I had the opportunity to indirectly give to the beings most precious, mothers. We were given the task to clean and prepare bags that were previously donated. These bags are going to be given to mothers who have suffered from domestic violence. The bags will represent a gift, but the true gifts are the mothers themselves. This event has been a moment in which we recognize the will and the love of a mother.

Be The Change: October 3rd - 9 to Noon: Root Collar Clearing at Stoney Ridge Park

For this event I had the opportunity to volunteer at Oakwood Cemetery. We helped in picking up trash and leaves. However, the moments I enjoyed the most was hearing the organizers' stories in regards to the cemetery 's history. In addition, my TIP mentor group was able to create a stronger bond as an outcome of this event.
